The kitchen is daunting. Recipes only teach you to cook one thing, but it doesn't teach you to integrate cooking into your life. Cooking has a philosophy, a practice to it. By opening up about what it's like inside my working home kitchen, hopefully, it will give you some insight.
I cook about five days a week. I never buy pre-made frozen food, TV dinners, and only once made chicken nuggets in my kitchen. I do eat fast food once in awhile and do eat out.
I know that I am in the minority because I cook so much. Most people don't have time. A lot of people don't know how to cook. The kitchen is daunting. And all they are presented with are recipes. Recipes only teach you to cook one thing, but it doesn't teach you to integrate cooking into your life.
There is a philosophy, a practice to it. It's about utilizing all the groceries you have. It expensive to keep throwing away rotten tomatoes or have half a pound or kilo of meat sitting in the freezer for months. We shouldn't anyway. It's really discouraging to throw away food, or look at something and not knowing what to do, it just feeds the feeling, "I don't know how to cook."
That's what I would like to address.
You can use most things in your kitchen. You can learn new ways to cook food or use the ones you have to make something different. You can explore new recipes, make up your own. It's just understanding how cooking works, not how much ingredients to put in.
You will have disasters. Things burn. #pintrestfail are necessary.
Pretty blogs with perfect photos don't tell you that.
I am going to try and write about my day to day experiences in my kitchen. Maybe teach you to cook. It will be an array of international dishes. It's not for everyone. Depending on where you live, ingredients might not be available but the philosophy of how that full plate got to the table is the same. Even if you don't like the food, it might be worth reading the journey.
It's a new endeavor. I will be working out how to do it as we go along.
But welcome to my kitchen.
