Democracy hardcore: This is Zhao Ziyang. This is Democracy

DeserveVotebannerweb

This 62 inch by 26 inch banner was created for the explicit reason of putting up at the Tiananmen Massacre Memorial. It features a photo of fallen Premier Zhao Ziyang speaking in 1989, 16 years ago, urging the students to return home. He was in tears.

Surrounding WE DESERVE THE VOTE: DIRECT ELECTIONS FOR HONG KONG, CHINA reads: SELF-DETERMINATION MATTERS. One Person One Vote. Accountable Government. Multi-Party Rule. Elected Leaders. Choice in Chief Executive. Open Ballot. FREE ELECTIONS. Awaiting a Democractic Hong Kong. RIGHT TO UNIVERSAL SUFFRAGE 07. Self-determination. Rule of Law. Free Speech. Freedom to gather. Ability to Dissent. REPRESENTATIVE DEMOCRACY. Right to a Fair Trial. Transparency in Government. Human Rights.

I was trying to say, this is what democracy is. These are the concepts that one gets with the vote. And the reason I consistently use Zhao Ziyang is because he is the man China wants to hide most. And what I said to a fellow artist yesterday, I designed Democracy Hardcore as an ad campaign for freedom, something that can explain or express these wishes in a visually stimulating and up-to-date way. I hope it will grow, much like Glutter has. Keep an eye out.
