Massive rescue efforts as Asian quake and tsunami toll soars near 23,000
Some Thoughts:
1) Ritcher 9. The Northridge quake that knocked down a building in my college was 7.5 or something like that.
2) The environmental impact of this will not be told for a long time. We have lost some of the world’s most beautiful reefs.
3) All the guest houses where the tide comes right up to, the dive shops, little villages I visited in Sri Lanka are gone. So are some of the people I am sure.
So heart broken.
4) Why don’t the news have a map? I can’t work out exactly where the tidal wave hit. I can’t work out exactly whether the places in Sri Lanka, India, and Malaysia I have visited are destroyed. I would like to know for sure.
(I found a map. The whole coastal area of Sri lanka that I went though was hit… I always stayed right on the beach.. the people I met, the friends I made….)

Man, I just realized that you are not too far from the carnage. I hope your loved ones are safe and sound, and I’m glad to see that you weren’t caught up in any tidal destruction. I shudder to think of life without the Glutter Blog to read…

THanks guys. I am in Aussie land visiting the folks at the moment, but even if I was in HK, I live on the 18th floor, so I would be okay. The whole thing is kinda scary, I really am not too far away.. Although I know all my close friends are safe, I worry about some of the people I know, as I think it’s possible they are on holiday in those areas. As well, as I feel very sad about some of the places I visited, because I am sure they are gone. I just hope the people I met is okay. Sri Lanka was one of the most beautiful places I ever visted, and I was very happy there. Sigh.

The whole thing is tragic. I know a few other people from the region, one of which lost a sister.
Glad you’re safe, Yan.
