Sydney, Australia
This country is obsessed with the death, pain and horror inflicted on the young.
This morning, I woke to watching a segment of the American Murder where a women cut another woman’s baby out of her womb and claimed it as her own. That was the first story on channel nine news in a country that is 18 hours flight away from the US at it’s closest point, if you minus the transfer times.
Yesterday they were talking about the re-trial of a man who murdered a baby and was let off. The day before, a boy of 18 was killed by a shark. The day before that, was a man who is involved in a child porn ring has confessed he’s downloaded some really "Sick stuff," on the same program was some news on the time when a man drove into a day care, set the place on fire and killed some kids inside.
Then there was "Australia’s most notorious pedophile" about to come out of jail after serving his fifteen year sentence. And of course the lovely news last Sunday, how the Sydney’s Police Chief decided that they are going to have a conference on child abuse in this country because it’s on "epidemic proportions." They have 40 x more cases of sexual and physical abuse then they did 20 years ago. I have only been in the country for 13 days.
I don’t know if it’s epidemic because more people are reporting it or that there are really more sick people out there, but I can tell you that the air time given to this on the radio and TV is surely pandemic.
I am pretty convinved there are more things going on in Australia and the world then babies being hurt. What they are I don’t know, as they don’t seem to feel the need to report that in the first 15 minutes of the news each day.
Oh that’s right. I am in the land of MURDOCK.
watching the youth of this country turn to america for everything really turns your heart cold.under the new free trade agreement with the u.s. 45% of television media will come from america.YANKY GO HOME! its funny, when i was at school we sang god save the queen.guess the next generation will be singing were all living in america.murdocks scare tactics work here too, except child abuse and evil men replace terrorism as the main theme?

I spent the week in Melbourne and my aunt watched nothing but Channel 7 and 9. They do a al breaking news style, flashing their headline of the day every half and hour on this sort of scare tactic news (and to compliment with a la Sandra Sully nasal blocking style is just a sin). It worst than MASH rerun.
