Glutter plugs and doodles
My mac has been on for about five days straight. Mainly I never finish my projects and they are just slewn across my desktop. (the mess is spreading). It just occurred to me that the thing hasn’t crashed, froze or anything. To be honest I have had a nightmare time with the machine for various reasons and have a bit of resentment against it. Except I realized that if I need to render films, then well the thing can’t crash. Now can someone please tell me what to do with my squeaky key board? Sometimes it just makes funny noises like a old house!!
Thanks
Try WD40 😉

have you got a laptop or desk tower? on a desk keyboard you can gently lever the keys off (which is how you clean under them) some of them (return key, space bar) have a wire brace to help the spring action. this wire should have a really small amount of lubricant on it, where it connects to the key and where it sits on the keyboard.
as for not crashing, that’s the joy of osx. i know someone running osx on an old imac that’s been going non-stop for about two years.

Lubricant… really WD40 would work? It’s not going to erode my lovely silver covering is it? I am (finally) starting to love my mac.

don’t use wd40 it’s too oily. go to your local mac shop and get something from there. i think it’s a silicon-based lubricant rather than oil. anyway if you just bought it you should have 90 days (or something) applecare for anything that goes wierd

Oh, I got the extended three year warranty. I didn’t even think to bring it in the shop coz the keys were squeaky. Duh!!!

😆 which means as well as taking it in for every little thing that is wierd, you also have lots of phone support and ‘switch’ support for people coming over from pcs,

Ooooh.. Hmm. Customer service? that’s something exciting and new. I never had that before…. Damn I didn’t know I could call them for that. Instead I spend hours and hours learning it on my own. Damn! On the other hand I think I know the machine quite well by now.

check out http://www.macoxshints.com forums. it gets a bit unix-command-line at times, but pretty much any question you ever have about your mac has been answered by a few hundred experts, including things like squeaky keys
