Hong Kong Mobile Phone Explodes!!

Glutter’s Hong Kong

This is the same phone I use!! I am a little nervous talking on it now..

When Chan Tin-hon’s mobile phone went off, it went off with a bang. “I was lining up in a bank,” the 22-year-old from Hong Kong told local Cable TV. “When I hung up the phone, it exploded. It was very loud.”

The station showed Chan’s phone, a Nokia 3310, in tatters and a spokeswoman for the manufacturer said they would investigate. “We’ve been in contact with the police. It’s confirmed that it was a Nokia phone,” the spokeswoman said.

“We’re trying to get hold of the product for technical testing. But as we haven’t got hold of the product yet, we can’t provide further information at the moment,” she added. Last year there were several incidents of Nokia phones exploding or bursting into flames in Europe. Nokia said other manufacturers’ batteries, and not its own, were to blame for the incidents. —AFP

However if mine “spontaneously” combusts do you think the company will have to replace it with a free top of a line one.. oh maybe the 7200? Which includes, a camera, video, radio.. Just wondering.. hmm..

  1. This was in the news alot some months ago and I think what they concluded was that it wasn’t the phone exploding but unofficial thirdparty batteries.
Many were bashing Nokia for trying to make people think they shouldn’t buy anything but Nokia’s own expensive batteries.
I would go with what Nokia says, I don’t see how anything else than the battery in a phone can explode, since every part is so tiny. The battery is the only thing big enough to make noticable explosion and they do also pack a explosion warning on them, but that’s if you throw them around 🙂

  2. I reckon Isaak’s got it right there. It’s likely to be a third party battery.
If so, Nokia can deny any legal liability on the grounds that it “clearly warns users to only purchase official Nokia products”.
I have Nokia 6100 with a TP longer-life and, I now assume, maximum explosion power battery…oops.

  4. Not to mention vegetables has genetic modifications and pesticides, beef has madness, fish has mercury, chicken has flu, and meat in general causes heart attacks, and coca cola causes teeth rot.
What do you mean you don’t have one? Is there anyone left in this universe that doesn’t?

  7. I don’t think Ms. Chan was injured otherwise I am sure the news would make an even bigger issue of it.
    Possible Headlines

  8. Oh! You cosmopolitan techno-snobs! I wish I had a 3310! I’ve got a 3360 which is so crappy it was only released in the US. Last time I was in HK, I tried to buy a new cover for it at the ladies market and out of the bazillion stalls with phone covers I found one guy who had five paltry covers. I got a hot pink one that was a little scratched up. It was either that or become a St. Louis Rams fan.
