Chinese Birthday Things!!!!

Hong Kong

This year I had two things in my birthday I never had before. One is a carved carrot in the deity of “Sau.” Sau means long life. He’s part of three “Fok,” “Luk,” “Sau” whom respectively symbolizes Luck, Prosperity and Long Life.

That’s Jelly Fish behind “Sua Gong” for Those You Don’t Know!!

The other is Chinese Birthday Buns, in the shape of a peach. “Sau Bao,” is not common for people to have them for random birthdays, we usually only get to have them in the banquets of old people’s “Dai Sao” (Big Birthdays) celebrations, in their 60th, 70th, 80th, etc. So for my 30th, we ordered some!! I was really excited because I was never really old enough to order them before. I made such a big deal out of having them!!!! They were pretty mini as they can come in far bigger sizes, but I am just 30, so it’s better to have small ones as I get to upgrade in years to come.

Neng Neng Biu Gor Also Bought Me A Cake too.
(I was so clueless I said, “How did the resturant know it was my birthday??” When it came.)

And as we left the restaurant I rubbed Buddha’s Tummy For Some Luck

  1. Tom is right, that is a big carrot sculpture. Is there a special carrot farm in Hong Kong that grows them so large? Hope you had fun, it is not a saints day or anything.

  2. Hello Sis! Wow. That really is a big carrot. But I loved the Buddha, I wish I had I Buddha belly to rub for luck. Well, I rub Jacob’s Buddha belly and make a wish sometimes but it doesn’t seem to work as well.
I’m glad you had a great birthday! I’m working my way through some of your stuff now. Did you get my piece? Is there anyway to get the computer to stop cutting off a bit of the left margin of the page?
