Dear Answer,
Lately my friends and I have been confounded by the human race. How we can go about destroying the environment, enslaving people by putting them in factories and making them work ridiculous hours in horrific conditions, or give some companies all the good land, and leave people who just need a patch to feed their family the worse.
While at the same time some people and some countries have obesity problems coz people can’t get off their fat butts and eat too much. Which I would say is a good reason to get completely blasted out of your mind at any chance you get, but then there are all these different laws against that too.
Then we go about allowing a few guys up there to make seriously important decisions for us which most of the time is detrimental to mental, physical and emotional health for most. All because of this self created thing called “Money.” You know that stuff is made up right? Like it really doesn’t grow on trees.
Then just running after that isn’t enough.
People have to jump up and down and trying to create more power for themselves in whatever way they can in whatever circumstance they can, by putting other people down, so people can LIKE them or something. We don’t get it? Is it a generational thing? I mean we all thought that if you were NICE to people, then people would like you. That was the way forward to having friends and a good solid foundation of life.
Damn, we need to all get together and write a joint letter to our parents and say, “Dear, Mom and Dad, you told me that by being polite, respectful and a good person, added with a dose of humour would go far in the world. Now we’re all in our mid 20s and early 30s we realized it’s not really the way. What’s up? Why is that?”
So anyway can someone please out there tell me who made up these rules and why we all have to follow them? Because they don’t make any sense to us. I understand that those are MY FRIENDS, which means they are people who I get along with and enjoy spending hours of my life wiling away talking, hanging out and doing things together. Which is probably why none of us get it either. And right now, many of us is struggling quite a lot with the fact we’re really embarrassed of the human race.
So if you have the answer. We would very much like to hear it. There is a comment box below.
Thanks
Yan and Her Friends.
I don’t have an answer to any of that, but I agree, what the hell happened has happened to people? Did I miss a meeting?
You get told over and over, be a good boy, stay in school, get into uni, get a good job and make loads of cash and don’t spare a thought for those who would never get the same chance as you, cos your the one that’s important. You with your fancy car, nice house and garden, don’t worry about others, you’ve earned your success they haven’t, blah blah and blah…People get caught up in their own tiny little world, I know cos i’ve done it before and it just causes you to act like an asshole.
You can easily start to get the view that people aren’t good anymore, they abuse you when your driving on the roads, cos they need to get somewhere three seconds faster than usual or they brush past you on the street, walking around like a damn robot. What happened to manners? hold a door open for someone and you get a suprised look. It’s crazy. I’m going to sound really naive and stupid here but why the hell can’t we all just be a little more aware of others? What the hell is everyone chasing after?
Mike.

Yeah I dunno either. Like I went and got pizza the other night, and the girl got the order wrong and I could see her getting really freaked out and ready to be yelled at.
I just looked at her and said, “Fine. I will wait. No problem.”
Anyway a series of things then happennened and at the end of it she goes, “You’re really a good person.”
All because I didn’t yell at her or cause a fuss over the fact she ticked “Chicken Wing” over “Corn Dog.”
I felt really embarressed of the world at that moment. I really did. I was like what is wrong with every other customer that comes in there who feels like they can yell at this girl?
She was in her mid-20s. Probably not the brightest thing in the known universe, maybe she likes her dog and her one pop star and gets the order wrong more often than not.
So what she got something wrong? Honestly, I it took ten minutes to fix it. What’s the rush and what makes people think they can yell at someone they percieve not to be as smart.
Actually I know all the answers to these questions. They choose someone not as smart with the crappiest job coz then they won’t be yelled back at.
I mean, people pick thier opponents as people they percieve to be weaker right? Look what happenned here? Pick on the girl, pick on the young, weak, infirmed, poor, uneducated, whatever combination that comes to “less powerful” coz they can’t fight back.
My dad (who by the way I am sure READ everything that happenned here but kept quiet about it lest in embarresses me) always did say, don’t let them bully you, and stand firm coz that’s when they don’t know what hit them and do it with a smile.

I’m not sure if this is present everywhere in the world, but it probably has a lot to do with different ideologies. In the U.S., we follow a capitalist ideology, which says that people act in their own best interest. Basically, they are supposed to do only what is beneficial to themselves and not others.
Also, it has a lot to do with changing cultural values. The idea of people being independent and free has allowed values and social mores of the past to be ignored. In this generation, there is no right and wrong, anything goes. This has been detrimental to society for many years. The future looks bleak if people do not return to tradition values and mores.

Jessica, I don’t really believe in “tradition values and mores,” I think we should all be even MORE accepting of others, and that includes thier flaws, difference of opinions etc. Coz a lot of the most intensely hateful people out there hide behind that, and they treat people with very little respect. I am not saying you are one of those people, but I do feel most people who tell the rest of the world how to live, tend to be the ones who also break the respect code most.
On the other hand I agree with you that the capilitistic model has a lot to answer for in terms of selfishness. But the communist models have a hell of to answer for in regards to free speech, fair trails, freedom of movement and human rights.
Personally I think there must be a better way. I am currently trying to learn a little bit about “Tripple bottom line accounting metholodgy.” Which means a company MUST take into it ecological and social impact when we look at their finances. So far i think that might be the way. Get back to you on that one!
