27 (utterly powerless) Legislators lecture the students like children #umbrellamovement #occupyhk

There was a press conference held by 27 “pro-business” “pro-China” legislators who claim they are from a “broad spectrum of political sphere.” More or less coz anyone who isn’t them don’t count.

This was exactly the same time as the Mongkok incident was going on. I made notes.

But mainly, they talked from the point of view of economic growth, stability, and the point of view of people who are trying to make a living.

Everything they say is true.

But their stance is ostensibly asking for the students to negotiate and end the occupy movement. Except they won’t say what there is to negotiate and what can be done because (surprise!) they have NO REAL POWER. So mainly they are a bunch of people voted in by small groups of people (need to explain the complex and ridiculous structure of HK political system soon, it’s deep in the archives as well) but can’t vote on anything serious because all of it is guarded by China.

The irony is they come out as if they are important. That they are legitimate leaders of some sort. They can’t see the forests for the trees.

But really it was each taking turns holding into the mike scolding the students like they are their parents.

Their kids are probably in their 30s now. And I am sure they don’t listen to them either.

I found the whole thing farcical. While not taking away the realities people do have to make a living.

I will write more when I have time. Exhausted…
