Tsui Hark’s New Film to Premier at Cannes

Glutter’s Hong Kong

BEIJING,
Nov. 11 (Xinhuanet) — Hong Kong Director Tsui Hark‘s new martial-arts
epic "Seven Sword" has been invited to hold its world premier at next
years Cannes Film Festival.

The film which is an adaptation from novel with the same name written
by Chinese author Liang Yusheng, explores how swords are made, why they
drift all over the country, and how they find their new masters.

There is nowhere else on earth that love Hong Kong directors more than Cannes. In fact in a city that supposedly known for the lack of "arts" our films has the biggest distribution over any other place in the world outside of the US.  Bruce Lee films found in middle of nowhere markets in Guatemala, posters of Hong Kong stars in communist Laos, and of course the never ending stream of art house cinemas showing of the Wong Kar Wais, Tsui Harks, Fruit Chans and John Woos. Bollywood makes more films then us, but name an Indian director off the top of your head? With 2046 in multiplexes abroad, as well as Edinburgh and Cannes lining up for it to premier at their festivals what more do you want from a city of seven million people?
