For about three years I was a Salon Premiem member, that was until they allowed for day passes to let you read the articles for free. So that was what I was doing. ACLU, Audi, the Sierra Club happily paid Salon a bit of money everytime I clicked on. But David Talbot the editor is one persistent man, or at least his marketing department is anyway, and after email after email reminding me of the “unfiltered, unflinching, unembedded reporting and commentary” that the teams gives us daily, I got an extra special offer of a one year pass for USD15. So I did it.
So thank me. Part of the reason that Salon exists are because people like me pay the salary of Talbot and Co, albeit I went for the cheap rate offer….. but really Salon has some of the most interesting cultural critism essays around, and I do apreciate their very informative book reviews. Through them, I have come across a huge collection of ideas and through the years it has been instrumental in expanding my reading choices out of fiction and the occassional ethnography into science and politics. They even have a special section on indie films, and it is most useful for keeping your finger on the pulse of entertainment. Their politics are far to geared towards the US for me, but they seems sane in comparison to the rest of the mainstream media of that country.
So if you’re one of the few people on the internet planet that don’t know what it is. I suggest you have a look at what the mag offers.
