Word of the Day
Independent:
1) Not governed by a foreign power; self-governing.
2) Free from the influence, guidance, or control of another or others; self-reliant: an independent mind.
3) Not determined or influenced by someone or something else; not contingent
4) Not dependent on or affiliated with a larger or controlling entity: an independent food store; an independent film.
Glutter starts anew as an independent 香港, 中国 (Hong Kong, China), blog. It’s been four months since I first asked to be removed from all HK blogger’s sites (with the exception of a few), and yesterday I have been asked to be removed from Living in China. Mainly, it’s like how we used to have raves in California, if it’s on the radio it ain’t as much fun coz you know those people who don’t get it are going to turn up and expect something different.
Some people just have an independent spirit, who like alternative views, who remain even if the number of readers are astoundingly big for the fact they’re really listening to just me, rather than sent to aggregated news links, to be underground at heart.
Some of us will remain counter-culture even when they hit 30. Some never want to be acknowledged but by those who find their way here on their own. For me being the biggest, best, most known are not as fulfilling as simply saying what needs to be said, even if it makes you uncomfortable. I never hid that intent, it was even in my bio.
For those who wonder how this came to being, I suggest you follow some of the links I provided about what those people have said about me and to me in the Hidden Curriculum comments. It’s only a sample.
Living In China maintains free speech, and the right for their participating blogs and editors to attack me and many others (from what I know, at least three within Nov, and two more at other times) for opposing views while co-opting the language of encouragement. One of their editors wrote to me and said, “Those people have the right to say what they want.” True. It seems then odd I would want to lend my name, content and ideas to them or help them find or send other Chinese Female Writers to their project.
For those people who I have tried to explain this to over and over again in the last four months but continue to feel I am part of their community I do not like, whose views for a large part I find inconsistent to mine, yet force the issue with me and on me, I post a photo. Images often get the point across in ways words cannot.
See? There is a little red heart shaped balloon floating by itself in the air above a huge building. That’s me and Glutter.
I am not saying I do not have partners in crime but they live in MY neighbourhood. I have over 100 links.
Now if everyone excuses me. I have a time capsule and primary source document on the stories of children born, acquire and live transnational identities called MERGING BOUNDARIES to create.
