Today’s Word: Dissent

In the last two days I have used the word DISSENT four times in various comments on my blog as well as others. It’s one of my favorite words in the English language. It was brought back to the forefront of my mind by Eat Your Vegetables and the comment I placed on the “Comment of the Week” (Page Left).

I wanted to put the definition on the blog:

The refusal to conform to the authority or doctrine of an established church, government or power; nonconformity.

This is what Glutter is about.

Lates! (as in a genus of fish that will return)

Tom gave me this quote:

“The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.”

(Archibald Macleish)

Ha Ha Ha I did a quiz and it called me “the educated man or woman of dissent!” Perfect!!

Well-behaved women rarely make history.

(I got called a Radical Feminist yesterday and how “I give a bad name to the movement.” from someone who doesn’t consider herself a feminist. I was happy. Coz it’s been a while since anyone called me a radical feminist. In fact I may NEVER have been called one, I get too gushy over boys for that. I need to hang with more conservative people. It makes me feel special and cutting edge.)

  1. A good quote on the subject:
“The dissenter is every human being at those moments of his life when he resigns momentarily from the herd and thinks for himself.”

  2. PS. You probably mean to ask me what “werd” is too. It’s just a mispelling of “word” which my friend says everytime someone says something that is “down” which means something agreeable and “right on” which means in fact, “well said”
I don’t know why it’s spelt funny. But it is. I think it’s from hip hop.

  3. Which America hating minority am I?
Turns out i’m a “conspiracy nut.” Part of it said “You’re the raving dissident, so disillusioned you’ll believe anything that could spell doom for us all.” lol, well there goes any cred I might have had! I think the question about the feds telling me it was a weather balloon but I know better did me in, lol.
