Street Racing: Hong Kong

This post refers to the Article in BC magazine:Live Fast, Die Young

Walking pass the garages, I looked across the street, standing on the curb are two kids furiously reading away. In their hands the copy of BC. I ran across the road! “Hey! What do you think?”

“The photos make me look Shaped (ying) man.”

“Yeah?”

“Hey Wah, Gei. You’re all grown up! In a magazine!!” The other boy laughs.

“It has my face in it!!”

“Yeah, I know but we blurred you out right?” I mumbled, feeling maybe I shouldn’t have used that photo.

“It makes me look like a pop star!”

“It does?”

“Hey that’s the gear stick of Fai’s car!”

“And Calvin’s Hand!”

“Why did Justin car gets the biggest photo on the top? Man.”

“I had nothing to do with it, the designer did it!!”

“That’s Fai fixing my car! And the mini’s wheel!”

“The photos are really cool. What does it say?”

“Well I am riding with you guys..” I start to translate.

“Man you make us sound like a gang or something! We’d get beaten up!”

“Fuck! You didn’t say it was on XXXX street did you?”

“No!”

“We’re not a car racing gang!”

“You’re not?” and keep translating.

“Can you just give us an idea. Make it short.”

“Well, just talking about riding with some of the guys.”

“So you made it all up?”

“NO! I did not make it up! It’s from when I was riding with Bowie and Ah, Gau.”

“Right. You got some facts wrong.”

“Like the models and year of the car! I know. I changed it so you guys don’t get caught by the cops!!!”

“Hmmm.”

The phone rings, the guy talks for a while, “Hey, so and so car’s broken down on blah blah Street, can you tow is?”

“Don’t have the equipment.”

“Get Fai, dude.”

“Get back in while. Go talk to Fai.” And they run off.

So I meander down the street.

“What do you think.”

“You got some facts wrong.”

“Like the model and year of the cars right?”

“Yes.”

“I don’t want you done in by the cops. Anyway most people who read it won’t know the difference except like five people, and they have ALL told me the models seems old, are wrong, color etc. I KNOW! Got the Evolution 1994 fixed yet?”

“Went out today.”

“Good.”

“I liked the photos. They are beautiful.” Cranks the car up and I have to jump out of the way.

“I want to do some black and whites of you guys.” Some sort of machine being whacked on the wheel of the car.

“Why?” More hammering.

“Coz it will look good!”

“My car is 1992.”

“Well let me film and then I can’t get it wrong. Coz it’s you guys speaking.” It gets completely drowned out by the machinery.
See how it goes. For all my wrong facts of their cars. They still seem happy.
