Rave Culture
This morning I woke up to strains of old skool psychedelic trance from giant speakers. It made me smile, float in and out of consciousness, think of lollipops, big silver jackets, wrap around sunglasses and really dirty sneakers. Trance at 9am in the morning? Did I pass out on a beach? Did I go sleep in a tent in the dessert? No.. no.. I am in bed. Yes. These are my sheets and I am wearing my flannel duck jamies. What’s going on?
When I realized I wasn’t dreaming, I considered checking myself into a mental institute as I was having a lucid flashback to my college days.
Seems like they are having a fair of some sort at the park by my apartment block. I like those things. It’s nice community building exercise except they have giant speakers and really loud commentators all day. Which means I have to leave the apartment and hide somewhere for the next six hours real soon. Which is a good thing, it’s a nice day.
Anyway, must be one of the sound guys who put it on as sound check procedure. Makes a lot of sense, we just pop up here and there all hidden -appear in these odd places incognito.
Sometimes I wear this Janis Joplin jacket and these old men and women who are in suits or seem really serious will come up, and say, “Ah. I used to have a jacket just like that. Oh in the good old days, when I had hair down to my shoulders, and it was a good time,” which ends with a very wicked grin and sometimes a wink.
Time passes quickly eh?
