Concerts, Festivals, Clubs: HK Just Got Cool Again.

(and PLEASE Stop Your Whining)

Hong Kong

Where did all you band supporters, metal heads, dnb freaks, music geeks come from? Where have you all been hiding? (You’re probably feeling the same about me). This last week has been an “outing” as such. I keep seeing you everywhere! Who are you? And you’re so not like the usual crowd coz you can just hang and chat with anyone.

It’s like all of us has been gagging for something different and something good. It’s been so boring… boring… boring… ever since SARs. As I am fondling tickets to Anita Mui, Neil Young and Rolling Stones for next week (Gyspy King was fantastic) Hong Kong just got happenning again.

Considering how much money the government and the US Chamber of Commerce lost at the Harbour Fest. You paper pushing guys might as well given us free concerts all month. I don’t mind you running it to the ground with the total lack of cool, promotion and smarts in how to do an event. Keep them coming!

Just don’t pull out in giving free space at Victoria Park again otherwise we would have had DE LA SOUL. (Y oh Y did you decided to charge the organizers of Rock It at the last minute??) We need events like this to build a community. It’s the only time EVERYONE comes out and hang together and have a catharsis. That’s what music is for ya?

And seeing the audience go off like they have. I always said we could, as long as you gave us a rockin’ set and all the energy ya got, we would respond in kind.

I wish all the whining people would keep it shut. I bet you most of them didn’t even bother to go coz if they did, they would have had a fab time like me and my friends. And the more you complain, the more unlikely it’s going to happen again. If I had to choose where my tax is going to waste. Well seeing the biggest rock band in the last 30 years live in the most intimate venue you ever will, is a good one.

Also: New Club Spy was pretty funky. The same same commercial hippy hoppy but a VERY fun, open, friendly and drunk crowd last night. (Thank You Calvin for getting us passed all the lines including the VIP one, so we didn’t have to lamely stand on the pavement as well as the shot of cranberry juice for the non drinker that I am. That was the sweetest!)

Also Liquid is gone gone gone (I think I am three months late for this announcement) but this NU club is just not interesting. It’s a banker-wanker outfit with the giant gold wooden frames on the walls, plastic flowers in vases, and rose colored seating. Liquid was the best looking club I have ever seen anywhere (with the scoured metal walls, the clear liquid bags that changed color, and a space port compartment, you have to go through before entering) I am very sad to see it gone. I have loads of footage of it. Maybe I should get some captures because it was so beautiful.

And I was pleased to see the government finally realized that they needed to close Wellington Street and Lynhurt Terrace for the crowds that come out on the festive nights like Halloween, instead of cramming everyone into LKF. Especially after what happenned in New Years 1992 (RIP to my friends and those I didn’t know). Loads of kids, teenagers and everyone out. My friend had some glowy bracelets she gave out to little kids (so cute), wished I had candy! Good Effort on the costumes.

I hope this isn’t a blip and we can continue the momentum. This city needs a boost. And I would love the last bit of my jaunt back here to be the best and most creative. Always leave on a high note. (Still got six months to a year left, so fingers crossed).

And dammit. Why isn’t LMF playing in any of these events? They are just like.. oh.. the best thing ever to come out of Hong Kong. Duh.
