Healing

(College Art and Poetry- Actually this is a real story from a friend who was a med student… this one is interesting actually)

Grey stiffness danced its way throughout her body,
under a white sheet on a trolley in the medical school
she laid next to strangers, all like her
awaiting dissection
in the name of Science
.

The student assigned to her body,
wonders why this 32 year old
woman was covered in bruises.

Wish she could heal.

Working on the woman, the student realizes
that both of her and the cadaver’s nail polish were chipped

As skin peel away to expose
body organs, revealing a collapsed lung
and other injuries.

The student understands the woman was beaten to death.

As Tribute
the student snuck in late one night to speak to this woman.
held her hand.
Talking, in a cold empty room,
in darkness.
the student touched up the woman’s nails.
