A Deluded Regina Ip Thanks Us For Our Unending Support

Regina Ip’s last day in office today. Some Chinese Government organization threw her a banquet and she received a standing ovation. Half those people are there because they work for Chinese run businesses and have to attend as part of their jobs.

She also made a speech to where she thanked the public and journalists for their “Enthusiastic and Unending Support.” I nearly died laughing. I was impressed she was able to keep a straight face, and the news included cut ins of the incredulous looks of the journalists, camera people, and by standers while she was making the speech, two women in particular looked like they might laugh out loud. Now, it’s really not often you get to see a bunch of hardened hacks look surprised. It would have made a wonderful little segment on the news itself. “And we would like to show you the response of those who covered the speech.”

She also took out a newspaper ad, again thanking the public for supporting her. I can’t decide if she did that because she is deluded or she actually cares about how history sees her, and figures in about 100 years time, the ad might be used as an example how Hong Kong people didn’t hate her guts. Then again, maybe I should cut it out and stick it on the wall because it would be the first example in a long long time she had anything nice to say to us.

China Daily Blast Bishop Sing

Bishop Sing who has always been an outspoken critic of Article 23, the Hong Kong Government and Central Government was attacked by People Daily today (The Chinese Government News Paper), for leading the Catholics to subvert the Chinese government.

They are accusing him of using the Church for political dissention, and turning it into a “political party.” I am really concerned about what was said. Because as I said before, the Catholic Church is a banned organization in China, and that anyone seen causing acts that could subvert the Chinese Communist Party, can be arrested under article 23.

Although I am unreligious, freedom of religion is important. And it just proves our Central Government will not tolerate any kind of dissention from any groups.

Many Catholics are behind this Bishop, he is wildly popular even with the general public and it would be just like China to make an example of him one day. His response to the article is that the paper does not always represent the government view. But I would say it does represent the way China views certain issues and it doesn’t mean it isn’t representing the government view either. It’s so discouraging to see something like that on the news. Doesn’t matter how much we speak, China will still exert some form of threat towards those who do not agree with them.
